Start your day off right
You know the saying “the early bird gets the worm”? Well there is a reason it’s so common. Our mornings allow us to set the tone for our days. This help us to be able to have a grasp over the quality of our days, rather than our days having a grasp over us. As we begin each and every day with a fresh start, we will be better able to truly focus on what is important in our daily lives.
Why should you wake up at 5AM?
I have so many people look at me cross-eyed when I tell them that I wake up at 5AM, and I usually don’t get to sleep until atleast 10PM. Then there’s the near hourly nursing sessions my one year old requires. So needless to say, I don’t get much sleep. Sure, I wake up early by choice, but I honestly enjoy it. But I promise that once you get into a routine, you’ll actually look forward to those early mornings alone.
So you decided to wake up early this morning, now what?
Develop your passion
You’ve been talking about owning a business for years, but haven’t even come close to writing a business plan. You keep saying you’re gonna leave your job to pursue a career in music. You complain about how there isn’t enough time in the day for you to create your own boutique. But there is enough time. You’re just not using it efficiently. And your morning is the place to start grabbing those unused minutes for some extra work time.
Why is it easier to make the choice to wake up early for school or work, than it is to wake up early to pursue your dreams? Your dreams should be just as important. Put that same urge you have to wake up and rush out the house late every morning, into the things that you’re passionate about. Perfect your craft. Get really good at the things that you love.
Nobody wants to work long a 9 to 5 at a job they hate. And you don’t have to. You can have a career that you love. It’s not gonna be handed to you though. You have to work for it. It all starts in the morning.
Pursing your dreams is much easier when you are provided with a distraction free environment. My favorite time to work is when the hkuse is quiet and I can still hear the crickets chirping. You can push to pursue these things at later times throughout the day, but I feel like that’s the wrong approach to take. You’re basically saying it’s not that important, especially if you don’t even end up pursuing after them by the time the day ends. Plus, its much easier to focus on a given task before you kick into mom mode.
Take a minute for self care
The first thing I do every morning is sit and drink a cup of coffee in silence. This helps me reboot and prepare mentally for the day ahead. Silence is key here, no electronics, no kids, just me – myself- and I. A little reflection goes a long way, trust me.
Being an early bird doesn’t always come easy, or naturally. When I started my 5am days I thought the world was ending. I literally had no idea why I ever thought of such a horrid idea. But now I wake up early almost daily- vacation days- weekends- and even sick days (unless I just can’t move). Making the most of your day always begins with a good morning, so be sure to start your day off right!
